Top Gun Rider Training Register

Taught by retired police motorcycle officer trainers

Two days, 16 hours, $450

or two clinics of 8 hours each $250/ clinic

This is a very demanding, slow-speed training course designed to increase your confidence as a rider by teaching many of the skills used by professional motorcycle police who must rely on their skill to stay alive.

After completing the riding sessions you will have improved your balance and coordination on a motorcycle. By learning the precision exercises at slow speed, you will improve your riding skills at higher speeds. In addition, you will no longer be nervous about riding in tight spots of narrow streets and parking lots. Your ability to ride on the street will vastly improve. Your braking skills will be refined in the course. Every exercise you learn is critical in real life riding situations that include danger, from the pressure of highway traffic to the menace of drivers who ‘just don’t see motorcycles’ on the road. You will have a much better understanding of your limits as a rider, so that you will be able to continue to practice the skills you need to improve upon for years to come. This course is ideal for riders who recognize the value of lifelong learning as a motorcycle enthusiast.

  • If you can’t turn around in a small area and look good doing it…you may be ready for this course.

  • If riding near other vehicles and motorcycles makes you nervous…you may be ready for this course.

  • If maneuvering in tight spots means losing control…you may be ready for this course. Never be intimidated in a parking lot again. .

  • If you are ready to get the best out of your motorcycling experience…you may be ready for this course…and it is the most fun you can have on a motorcycle, legally!

Offered in a two day format or four, 4-hour evening clinics.

Clinic one: Precision Curves and Turns Register

Take your riding to new heights of control and skill. Focus on the motorcycle controls and how to use them together for maximum efficiency and safety.

Get started learning advanced riding skills. The exercises show the rider how to use motorcycle controls together for maximum benefit. Starting with clutch control exercises, riders learn to recognize and use the control point when feathering the clutch. Rear braking exercises are introduced and practiced. While the front brake is the most important one for stopping, the rear brake, if used properly, is critical for total control of the machine. Proper body positions that augment riding skills are introduced.

Learn to handle the motorcycle elegantly in slow speed turns, and heavy stop and go traffic.

Riders practice the skills needed for tight spots. Clinic two shows the rider how to maneuver the motorcycle in small places and look good doing it. Most riders can ride a motorcycle straight at high speeds. In fact, they are designed to stay upright. The motorcycle only needs a rider to make it turn. The best motorcyclists can handle the motorcycle skillfully at slow speed, like slow turns, parking lot maneuvers, and heavy stop and go traffic. Riders start to put the rear brake and the front brake together for maximum control. The majority of motorcycle accidents occur in curves and improper braking. This clinic will show the rider how to handle curves and correct braking habits with confidence and ease.

Clinic two: Higher Speed Braking and Evasion Register

Higher speed braking, swerving and evasive maneuvering exercises

Clinic three introduces higher speed drills, still focusing on precision and control. Riders learn how to maximize the use of all controls on the motorcycle. The throttle, clutch, front brake, rear brake and body placement are all incorporated into the riding exercises. The exercises will include higher speed braking exercises, high speed swerves and evasive maneuvers that the Police riders use every day.

Timed runs of simulated traffic problems. Emergency stop, swerve, and quick turns in small spaces.

In clinic four, riders will combine all the riding skills from earlier clinics and ride through simulated traffic problems. The clinic includes timed runs. Included in this final session are emergency stops, swerving to avoid obstacles, quick turns in small spaces.

Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic - ARC Level I Register

Part of the reason for the program's success is the dynamic classroom training, which includes both theory and application of the Total Control ARC techniques. By including a basic analysis of vehicular dynamics, riders get a clear understanding of how their actions affect their bikes. For instance, in the suspension portion of the class, riders learn how to analyze the effectiveness of their suspension and how to set it up for maximum control and comfort.

The range portion of the training is done in a large parking lot or skid pad where each of the skills are individually broken down and practiced. Working on only one skill at a time is the fastest way to make consistent riding improvements. The beauty of doing it this way is that the student is never asked to make a huge "leap of faith" in any one area. Each skill is built up in small two-mph increments until the desired result is achieved. This allows for high confidence and never gets too scary. In fact, cornering speeds never go above 25 mph. While this may seem slow, in a tight enough corner, 25 is very, very fast. Combined with a strategic "building block" formula for integrating the individual skills into a complete riding package, the Total Control ARC enables riders to learn faster and easier than ever before. Equally important, all the Total Control ARC skills are taught with their direct applications for street riding. After all, knowing how to do something is of little value if you don't understand when and where to use it.

All students must provide their own bikes and have at least one year of riding experience. For students with less than two years of experience, it is advised (though not required) that they have completed an MSF ERC. Protective gear is required for all students, which includes a DOT-approved helmet (full-face recommended), motorcycle jacket and pants, gloves and boots that cover the ankles. Jeans and fingerless gloves are not allowed, but Kevlar jeans will be accepted.

Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic - ARC Level II Register

Takes off where the original left off. More challenging exercises from the best-selling book "Total Control" plus some exciting new ones mean the students will take their riding to a whole new level.

Topics covered include:

  • Riding Psychology

  • Speed Shifting

  • Trail Braking into a Turn

  • Decreasing Arc Mid-Corner

  • Decreasing Radius Turns

  • Chassis Setup

  • Quick Stops

  • TC Solo

In TC Solo, we combine the skills from Level 1 and 2, and experience them at significantly higher speeds, mimicking the g-forces of track riding.

Women Only Classes

Would you feel more comfortable learning to ride in a class with only women? Has the thought of attending the Basic Rider Course with men who are already experienced riders stopped you from getting your own motorcycle endorsement? Do you have a group of friends who get together regularly for a book club or girls only vacations?

Why not schedule a private class for women only and learn to ride motorcycles together?

Indicate your desire to take the BRC with women only when registering. Classes are offered on a periodic basis as requested.

Re-entry Riders

Have you and your wife dreamed of taking a road trip together on a cruiser? Would you like to return to motorcycle riding but are unsure of your capacity level after all these years? Do you find you have time on your hands to do some of the things you have wanted to for years? Are your kids gone and on their own now?

Learning to ride offers additional challenges for the over 40 crowd that are addressed in special classes designed to incorporate strategies for the mature, first-time or returning rider. Maybe this is the right time in your life to take the Basic Rider Course with others with similar interests. Classes are offered periodically, according to demand.

Private Lessons

T3RG Motorcycle Schools contracts with the most experienced and professional rider coaches in the metro area. If you have a bad riding habit you are trying to replace with a good riding habit, maybe a 3-hour of private session is for you? If you are returning to riding after parking your bike for years and want the undivided attention of a professional instructor, consider a private class.

For those who learn best with private instruction with a talented rider coach, call the office at 303 433-9424 to make reservations for a private class.

DMV Third Party Testing

T3RG no longer provides Third Party Testing. In over five years, we have found that most riders tested did not pass the DMV skill test. Statistics indicate that crashes and fatalities are most often among riders who have never been trained. Do yourself and those who love you a favor and take a class.

Accident Scene Management

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 3% of Roadway crashes involve motorcyclists but 17% of Roadway fatalities were motorcyclists! The purpose of ASMI's Bystander Assistance Programs are to reduce injuries and fatalities to motorcyclists through First Response Education. We also expect to reduce rescuer injury through proper training. Our programs, based upon the US DOT First Responder Curriculum, are focused on Trauma rather than First Aid and CPR. All classes include a Lead instructor who is EMT or higher in medical training. For the price of a piece of chrome you can receive this invaluable training in just one to two days. Don't put this training off.
